My Pinterest boards were in full bloom on this room. When we first started looking at homes, we both thought of formal dining rooms as a waste of space. A room no one ever goes into, just another place to buy furniture for, etc. trust me we used every line in the book. When we found our dream home, low & behold it had a formal dining room. Not only a formal dining room, but a formal dining room that greets you the moment you walk in our front door. So not buying furniture for it wasn't an option.
As I began designing the room in my head I began realizing how functional the room could really be. What a statement it could give as our guests (and Dane) he still comes through the front door (don't ask), walk in. Plus on the upside of all of this, I didn't have to try & decorate around a TV. I started with a neutral rug. Our floors are really dark & I knew the room would need a contrast. I have linked the rug here.
We fell in love with our dining room table the minute we found it. The design of the wood, the uniqueness of it's patterns & the change in texture from the bench, to chairs to accent chairs was exactly what we envisioned. Although my intention is to have this table eventually set with formal dining ware (another excuse for a blog post) I love the simplicity & the warmth the wood & greenery portrays.
This credenza was sitting close by & if Dane hadn't said anything I wouldn't have thought twice about it. I knew we would need something to fill that space & the two pieces complimented one another so nicely, we knew it was meant to be! Luckily it can hold lots of dishes inside. So if & when (if we ever) decide to own fine china, it has the perfect spot! The details of the credenza were the trickiest, not too much, not too little, still incorporating the farmhouse feel, just a little more formally. I knew the writing of our Gather sign was black & I wanted to be sure to include a few black elements into the mix.
Our Gather sign is from Small Wood Home & they are always running a sale! This size is the XL on their website and is 45 inches long for reference! How fitting for such a beautiful sign to represent the numerous gatherings we hope to host in our dining area. Paired with galvanized metal sconces, lavender & cotton the sign is quickly brought into the room! (I love using stems that I can switch out easily. Especially during the holidays when I can switch out the lavender, cotton & eucalyptus for evergreens, holly berries & other festive stems! This shelf was a lot harder to find then you would think! I love the raw, natural edge it has & the brackets are sold separately! This shelf is four feet long but super easy to hang! I'll link it here, as well as in the widget below
One of my most requested posts/ frequently asked question is for a home tour! We moved in the beginning of April, & as OCD as I am, I had a spread sheet complete with each room in the house, what we needed for each room, as well as inspiration boards of the look we were going for! I collected things for the short time before we moved in & that collection became, well... massive. Thanks to Amazon, Wayfair, Home Goods, Hobby Lobby, Kirklands & many other home decor retailers (just to name a few) our house has quickly became a home.
I am still moving decorations around daily, & finding new knick-knacks quite often, however I don't recommend trying to furnish, & decorate each room all at one time. (I basically did, & it was exhausting) However, I don't regret a minute of it, because I LOVE interior design & I love challenging myself to make each room exactly how we imagined it! I have included links for products to give your space a modern farmhouse feel, I will also link our couches here, as many of you have asked! They are also available at Nebraska Furniture Mart!
I wouldn't have guessed that my first interior design picture of the house would be the bathroom, but as of now it's the most put together place in our home & I had to share! We had a blank space I think had originally been planned for a tv, which gave us the perfect opportunity to use floating shelves! I purchased these for 50% off, making them only $20 each! They are super easy to hang & they have a few different stain colors! I was on the hunt for the perfect apothecary jars. Our theme is modern/ industrial farmhouse & when I looked at apothecary jars they all had a victorian look, until I found these , they are currently 50% off too! The wooden tops help to add a little character & farmhouse feel! Add my favorite bath salts for a little color & that spa like feel!
PSA, rolling towels is not as easy as it looks. These took me a good 20 minutes to perfect, and the shelves aren't super deep so it was a challenge. I looked for the thinnest, smallest white towels and stumbled upon these, the price was great too! I added a little succulent plant for greenery to coincide with the farmhouse pitcher, and lavender and cotton combination. Last I found this framed pressed paper artwork on clearance, online has it full price but keep an eye on it! I've linked my favorite bath sheets ever, and they are on clearance! They were exactly what I was looking for & I am so glad I waited!
There are still boxes to be unpacked, and organizing to do, but there is nothing as sweet as your first home, & sharing it with your best friend. We have already made so many memories in just a short time & I cannot wait to watch this next chapter unfold. My goal is to slowly introduce ya'll to the progress of the home, if I had it my way it would be done instantaneously but I am enjoying the ride of finding the perfect knick knacks to make this house a home.
